Before you run out to the stores and spend too much time trying to find some key pregnancy items at multiple locations, go to Amazon.com first. I had been purchasing all of my items from either specialty stores or from Whole Foods until I discovered how many items Amazon carried for cheaper and—most of the time—with free shipping. Now I don’t waste anytime leaving with a 22-month-old to shop, I just head online.

Here’s a list of some must-haves for pregnancy that Amazon carries; I have discussed these on my blog and provided the links to each item. Happy shopping!

Mother’s Blend body oil – This oil is so key for keeping away stretch marks and you can buy bulk at Amazon and save a lot of money. You’ll only want to purchase up to 4 bottles at a time, as it is made without preservatives and can become rancid if it sits too long. Here you can purchase a 2 pack and save, plus get free shipping.

Mother’s Blend soap – I just began using this soap as Whole Foods did not carry it and I found it at a specialty store by chance. It is natural and very gentle on your skin. I love it and it highly recommend using it in combination with the body oil above. You can go through Amazon to purchase this, but most of the time it is sold by a secondary store so you can’t get free shipping. You can request Whole Foods to stock it, though, or just buy online.

New Chapter Organics – Prenatal vitamins made from organic whole foods is a must. I don’t use the doctor prescribed prenatal vitamins and opt for prenatal made from real food as a lot of women end up getting nauseous over the synthetic versions. You have a choice as to what kind of prenatals you want to take and these are approved by doctors to use while pregnant. You just have to tell them you want to use these, rather than the medically prescribed prenatals. I purchase the 180 count bottles and save along—with free shipping!

Nordic Naturals – You have a choice of purchasing your omegas. You can purchase Nordic’s Prenatal DHA or Nordic’s Complete Omegas – 3.6.9. I choose to go with the latter as you receive more Omegas along with the DHA. Again, I purchase the 180 capsules and save with the free shipping.

Biotics Research Vitamin D drops – Pregnant women are now shown to be deficient in Vitamin D which boosts your immune system, along with preventing several problems in infants. I take the drops daily and also give them to my son. Talk with your doctor, midwife, or acupuncturist as to how much you should take a day to supplement what the prenatals don’t give you. Don’t be surprised at the amount of I.U.’s they recommend!

Iron – Iron deficiency can be a problem with pregnancy. I take one additional iron supplement a day on top of my prenatals as the prenatals just barely covered the recommended daily amount. Talk with your doctor, midwife, or acupuncturist to see if you need to add another dosage a day to your intake.

Emergen-C – I take this daily even when I’m not pregnant. It is a great way keep up your immune system while pregnant. Again, always discuss with your doctor, midwife, or acupuncturist when adding additional supplements to your pregnancy.

Organic Pregnancy Tea – Watch on Amazon for deals for this tea. It should run you under $5 for a box of 16 tea bags. I few weeks back, I purchased a 6 pack for $24.99, which ended up giving me one box free compared to the normal price. I don’t see that deal currently, but keep checking back as this changes often. Some of the current pack deals are still higher priced than if you just purchased the tea as individual boxes, so be careful when looking through Amazon for this product.

Organic Rasberry Leaf Tea – Again, this should cost you less than $5 on Amazon. You can buy this in bulk but I prefer to just buy individual boxes of it, as you only use it at then end of your pregnancy, unlike the pregnancy tea above.

Like in my previous blogs, beware the all-natural and organic baby products as they can still contain parabens and phenoxyethanol, both of which you do not want your baby to have. That gray area still exists and until the public becomes wise to it and demands that those items be removed from natural products, you as a consumer must be on guard when purchasing your baby products. Always read the ingredients! If you do a search on Amazon for natural and organic baby products a large list of products come up that do contain phenoxyethanol. Some companies have it in one baby product and not another, so always check the ingredients. This can get a little tough if you are purchasing them all online as sometimes they don’t tell you every ingredient. Below are the safe items that I have found without parbens and phenoxyethanol in them. Again, I have only reviewed the products below. Just because you can purchase one item from a specific company does not mean that all of their product line is safe. Here are products I know to be phenoxyethanol and paraben free.

Burt’s Bees Diaper Ointment – A great product and you save money when you buy the two-pack at Amazon

Burt’s Bees Fragrance Free Shampoo & Wash –  A great soap for babies and kids

Burt’s Bees Buttermilk Lotion - Great for any age

Rainbow Soap for kids – A great soap for kids

California Baby Wash – This is another great soap for in the bath. It is very gentle and comes with a bubble wand.

Peter Rabbit Organics Carrot and Pumpkin Baby Care - I have researched this product and you can only purchase it at Whole Foods. I couldn’t even find it on their online store, but it is a great product.

Earth’s Best Chlorine Free Baby Wipes - I had been purchasing these until switching over to just using cloth wipes on my son. From my research, these seem to be the least toxic on the market. Don’t be fooled by other baby wipe companies—most still use phenoxyethanol in their wipes. If you are looking for deals, just purchase the refill packets and use them out of the packets or a reusable tub; as you know you’ll go through them, purchase in bulk. This site sells the 80 wipes in 12 packs which can save you a lot of money.

Hyland’s Homeopathic Kids Medical Kit - I love these homeopathic tablets for my son and purchasing this kit is a huge money saver. Whole Foods sells the same for $35 and at Amazon you can get it for $20 with free shipping. When you do get the kit, THROW AWAY THE BRUISE STICK that comes in the kit. The ointment contains Methylparaben and Propylbaraben! Go figure, right? The ointment is the only thing that doesn’t make sense in the homeopathic tablet kit. The rest of the products are fine as they are tablets that dissolve instantly in the mouth and can be used from baby to adult. I don’t leave on a trip without a few of these different tablets in my bag. If you are looking for a bruise remedy, they also sell individually a bruise remedy in tablet form and one comes in the kit as well. Also look for Hyland’s Colic tablets, teething tablets (great to have on hand in your purse!), earache tablets, flu care tablets, C-plus cold tablets and Vitamin C- Tablets.
