First of all, let me say that keeping up with this blog along with getting ready for a new little one is quite a challenge. I don’t know how many people out there are reading this, but please understand when I say I’ll be cutting down my blogging to 3 times a week. I plan on posting at least on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and hope to add in an additional fourth day if possible. I blog either late at night or early in the mornings and it’s getting a little overwhelming. Thank you in advance for your understanding.

Last Friday I got nervous about how much I still haven’t done. I have 2 months left before the little one arrives. I still have to purchase newborn cloth diapers, prewash and prep them all (this is an undertaking as you need to wash them at least 6 times prior to use), a new mattress, bedding and a mattress for my moses bed, mattress pads, and a protective mattress pad for my queen bed, to name a few things. Then the list of ‘to do’ items is creeping up on me. I need to rearrange my son’s room to accommodate all of the newborn items again. From emptying drawers and sorting the closet and making room for the tiny things currently stored in the attic, there’s a lot that needs to be done. I also have my nesting kicking in and I have a thousand things around the house that I want fixed, moved, sorted, cleaned, created, or sold. As the baby will be living in our room for the first 6 months, I need to feel like our room is ready. This was somewhat started when we had our first but never finished as there was so much to do. Now, I want it finished. I have curtains to hang, a window seat to finish and a couch to move. My list just keeps growing.

Finally, I decided to put to use some of the life coaching skills that I’d been working on for work and put them to use in my home. The biggest one that I had to deal with was not trying to do everything on my own. In the past year I had become more proficient at delegating some of my work to those who could help me so that I could concentrate on the bigger stuff. Now I needed to apply that to my home. So, on Friday I began finding people who I could hand off jobs to.

First, I found a handyman to take care of fixing the house. Yeah, I’ll get the grout fixed in our shower, cracks and chipped paint redone (loads of that after all of the earthquakes we had), lighting cans purchased and hung, new lights run in our living room and odd ball things all over the house that have needed fixed and are BUGGING me to no end.

Second, I found a seamstress that can finish my window cushion for my window seat. I began this project about a year ago and it has been sitting in my room waiting for me to cut and sew it. Not anymore. I’m dropping everything off to her tomorrow and for $45 she’ll finish it all. Once she does that I’m giving her everything for my kitchen window seat and will get more done than I had dreamed of before the baby is born.

Third, I made a list of the items only I can do. This would be the purchasing of baby items and reorganizing my son’s room. As I am not ready to tackle the reorganizing just yet, I decided to get on with the purchasing. This does need to be done sooner rather than later as some items will take awhile to ship and some items need plenty of time to prep. On Friday I knocked out 2 out of the 3 big purchases I needed to make. The first one was purchasing a truly organic mattress with all of the dressings. I wrote a blog on this a few weeks back regarding SIDS and provided some links to some great mattresses. After rereading and researching some additional sites I chose to go with www.absolutelyorganicbaby.com for all of my mattress and puddle pad needs. Even though I had purchased what I thought was a good organic mattress for my first child, I soon realized that it was just as toxic as the rest of the non-organic brands. This time around I’m investing in the truly organic mattresses and bedding. I bought their standard Ecobaby organic latex crib mattress 6″ thick, the Ecobaby organic crib wool puddle pad, the Ecobaby organic crib mattress pad, the Ecobaby organic oval bassinet mattress and the Ecobaby organic bassinet wool puddle pad. Now, these items get pricey fast so be prepared and think about the investment you are making for your babies. I’d pay 3 times this amount to have the piece of mind in knowing that I’m doing everything possible to prevent SIDS in my home. There is no price you can put on saving your child’s life. This site is by far one of the best for product information. I searched several sites and no other site offered so much information. They give visuals of inside the mattresses, studies that have been conducted that link toxins to SIDS, the benefits of each product and a list of the toxins that you need to beware of in mattresses. They also give the certifications of all of their products online so that you can see proof of the testing that has been done.

Next on my list was to purchase some additional organic sheets for the crib, cradle and moses bed. I hadn’t purchased anything for my moses bed originally however, I didn’t know I could purchase a mattress for that either. It was only after I discovered it at www.absolutelyorganicbaby.com that I began searching for more items for that size baby bed. Again, I did my research and really liked www.thenaturalorganicbaby.com as they have great images and a wonderful explanation of their products. Plus, their site is laid out well and makes sense. Some sites can overwhelm you with everything and no organization. This site sticks to its main products and makes the navigation of their site a breeze to find exactly what you need.  I ended up ordering some extra sheets for all of my baby beds and then added in a new moses covering and a moses basket organic wool pad, which they didn’t sell at the other site. I still need to purchase the adult bed wool covering but decided to wait as we may have to get a new mattress or switch mattresses in the house for my husband and his back.

Now onto purchasing cloth diapers…
